No one should have to go through the process of colon cancer treatment alone. Unfortunately, too many do. For those who are diagnosed with colon cancer, organized peer support is few and far between. With your help, Chris4Life is changing that, creating a strong triangle of care for diagnosed patients that includes their medical team, social work team, and peer mentorship team.

Our Patient Mentorship Program will help make the experience of dealing with colon cancer less confusing and solitary.

Through this program, Chris4Life will provide patients with a consistent first line of contact on a peer level, helping patients with colon cancer navigate through the hospital and healthcare system, as well as through the personal experience of diagnosis and treatment. We will draw directly from the best practices of other cancer peer support organizations, specifically the highly successful breast cancer peer support networks. We are working closely with medical teams to find mentors and match them carefully with newly diagnosed patients. Chris4Life mentors will be expertly trained to offer emotional support and insight, help patients communicate with their physicians, and connect them to valuable social resources.

If you are interested in being a mentor or a mentee, please contact us at info@chris4life.org

This program directs its funding and attention directly to the needs of current colon cancer patients. The goal is to improve immediate care in the treatment environment through patient education, advocacy and support.

Chris4Life has also founded the Chris4Life Fund. Dedicated to supporting underserved communities throughout the Washington, D.C. Area, this fund will helps patients to bridge the gap often caused by a cancer diagnosis. In 2010 we are teaming up with Georgetown University's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center to get support to patients in need, providing small funds for:

    • Childcare
    • Transportation to and from appointments
    • Car payments
    • Utilities
    • Hair styling (wigs, haircuts, etc.)
    • Metro cards
    • Grocery cards
    • House cleaning service
    • Meals
