June 21, 2010 - (Burke, VA) – The Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation, in partnership with The Pink Line Project and Pamela’s Punch, will host the 1st Annual “Blue Crush” Summer Celebration to Crush Colon Cancer on Tuesday, July 27, from 7-10PM at the new and exquisite Adams Morgan space called STROGA.  Chris4Life is dedicated to the power that art events provide by improving lives through various art related activities.  For patients and caregivers, self-expression and enjoyment through the arts is proven to aid in the healing process and creates a sense of community and success during a time of hardship.  Chris4Life is striving to find new and cutting edge ways of fundraising for this rapidly growing foundation – creating cultured programs and unique activities for people to help bring them into the fight against colon cancer. 

The evening will be filled with live music performances, an opportunity to purchase limited-edition prints commissioned from DC’s top artists, signature cocktails, savory bites, VIP reception, local DC celebrities and inspirational stories from notable colon cancer survivors.  Performance line-up includes Grammy nominee hip-hop artist Christylez Bacon, contemporary classical group Low End String Quartet, indie-rock band The Four Horsemen, the City Dance Ensemble, and sultry soul singer Deborah Bond. This world-class performance event will celebrate colon cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers. 

Tickets are on sale online for only $35, after July 17th ticket price is $40 (online ticket sales only – no sales at the door).  All proceeds from the event will benefit Chris4Life Patient, Treatment & Care Program.

About Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation

The principal goal of Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation is to permanently eliminate the threat of colon cancer through discovery of a cure.  As long as people are dying from this disease, we will be at the front lines of the fight.  To this end, we will fund cutting edge research so that the brightest minds and best institutions are empowered to cure colon cancer for good.  Until then, Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation is committed to significantly improving the treatment experience for patients and caregivers, and to dramatically raise awareness about colon cancer in general.  Following the inspiration of Christine Sapienza, we will utilize the arts as a means of integrating the mind, body and spirit in our approach. Working together we will build a culture of care and foster relationships with research institutions, advocacy groups, the health care community, and the general public.  Chris4Life four core values are Compassion, Empowerment, Perseverance, and Life.

Chris’ Story

Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation was inspired by Chris Sapienza, who in the spring of 2009, tragically lost her battle to the disease.  A loving wife, dedicated mother of four, a musician, and small business owner, she touched the lives of many and inspired even more during her journey.   In 2006, she received a call from her doctor that a routine colonoscopy had revealed an advance stage of colon cancer.  After the initial stage of upheaval and fear, Chris settled down to finding a way to fight this disease with her underlying strength and steely determination.   Her search for the best doctor and program led her to the Lombardi Cancer Center in Washington, D.C.  Chris endured two and half years of treatment, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and a new “cyber knife” procedure that gave her a couple of good and hopeful years.  In 2009, Chris received the unfortunate news that the disease had spread into her abdomen.  Even through the terrible news, the pain, and other medical bumps in the road, Chris looked for the positive signs and kept hope for everyone.  But on May 11, 2009, the day after Mother’s Day, Chris lost her long battle.

Chris4Life Programs

Research & Cure – Use the Christine Sapienza Research Fund to help fund the Ruesch Center, a new gastrointestinal research center at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Cancer Center.  Create a Medical Advisory Board for doctors to collaborate on cutting edge research

Treatment & Care – Found the Chris4Life Fund to financially assist colon cancer patients, families, and caregivers in underserved communities.  Establish a Patient Mentor Program to emotionally and educationally support colon cancer patients and train volunteers.

Awareness & Prevention – Raise public awareness of colon cancer through cutting edge creativity in social media, TV, events with help from enthusiastic ambassadors for the cause.  Educate the public about the need for early detection and screening.
